About us

Welcome to Monarch garden design

We are a locally owned garden design and installation service, located in cottage country, serving Peterborough and the Kawarthas.

Do you imagine your garden as a cool, shady woodland retreat or a riot of colour, buzzing with pollinators, but don’t know where to start? You will likely have a vision of your ideal outdoor space and no matter what type of garden you desire, your personal imprint is an important part of the design. Together we can lay out a plan that works for the conditions and size of your property and select plants whose colour, form and texture complement your home and enhance the landscape. Our use of advanced design software enables us to walk you through your garden, and fine-tune it to match your vision, before a shovel even hits the soil!

the design process

Design Consultation and Site Analysis – Firstly, we will meet with you in your garden to measure and evaluate the site, take photos and discuss ideas for your perfect green space. We will discuss garden styles and themes, plant preferences, the function of the space, and the influence of light, weather and soil on plant choices.

Design Presentation – When the design concept has been agreed, we create a computer designed plan with a walkthrough feature. This enables you to virtually stroll through your new garden before any work begins and make any changes that you require.

Once you have approved the design, if you choose to have professional installation, we prepare scaled working drawings from which an installation quote can be prepared.

Planting Plan – Finally, we provide a full plan and list of the plants in your new landscape, with complete care guide. If you choose to manage the installation yourself, the plan, plant list and care guide will be supplied for your reference.

Our Designer

Lynn is a University of Guelph horticulture graduate, specializing in design. She has gained practical experience as a landscape designer at two large garden centres. Her extensive plant knowledge, acquired from employment at the Royal Botanical Gardens, in addition to retail nursery and greenhouse operations, is invaluable in the design process.

The garden suggests there might be a place where we can meet nature halfway.
